Toronto Garbage Collection Holiday Schedule

Toronto collects garbage, recycling and green bin on nearly every statutory holiday — your collection day does not change. The only two holidays with no pickup are Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when that week's collection is pushed forward by one day.

good news: your day stays the same on almost every holiday. here are the exact dates.

Is there garbage pickup on holidays in Toronto?

Yes — on nearly all of them. Toronto is one of the cities that keeps collecting straight through most statutory holidays. Garbage, blue bin recycling, green bin and yard waste all run on your normal schedule. The only exceptions are Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Holidays That Do NOT Change Your Collection

  collection runs as normal on:

  Family Day ......... Mon Feb 16, 2026
  Good Friday ........ Fri Apr 3, 2026
  Victoria Day ....... Mon May 18, 2026
  Canada Day ......... Wed Jul 1, 2026
Simcoe (Civic) Day . Mon Aug 3, 2026
  Labour Day ......... Mon Sep 7, 2026
  Truth & Recon. ..... Wed Sep 30, 2026
  Thanksgiving ....... Mon Oct 12, 2026
  Remembrance Day .... Wed Nov 11, 2026

On every one of these, put your bins out on your regular day at the regular time. Nothing shifts.

Does the Civic Holiday affect garbage collection?

No. Toronto collects as usual on Simcoe Day — the Civic Holiday on the first Monday of August. The same goes for Labour Day, Victoria Day, Family Day, Canada Day and Thanksgiving: your collection day does not change.

The Only Holidays That Shift Collection

🎄 Christmas Day — no collection
  🎉 New Year's Day — no collection

on these two days there is no pickup.
that day's collection, and the rest of
that week, moves forward by one day.

2026–2027 Holiday Shift Dates

the shifts you actually need to know

  Christmas Day .... Fri Dec 25, 2026
→ Friday collection moves to Sat Dec 26

  New Year's Day ... Fri Jan 1, 2027
→ Friday collection moves to Sat Jan 2
