How the Markham Collection Schedule Works

Markham (York Region) doesn't collect the whole city on one day — every address has its own regular collection weekday, and two houses in different parts of the city can go out on different days. What's the same everywhere in Markham is the rhythm:

So on a garbage week you set out the green bin, recycling and garbage together; on the in-between week it's just the green bin and recycling. The lookup above shows exactly which one is next for your address, pulled live from the City's collection calendar.

Markham uses a clear-bag garbage program. Black, dark, tinted and white bags are not collected — your garbage has to go out in clear (transparent) bags so collectors can see recyclables and organics haven't been thrown in. Blue box recycling and the green bin are how you keep that clear-bag count down.

What Time to Put Bins Out

Have your bins and bags at the curb by 7:00 AM on your collection day. You can set out after 7 PM the night before, though Markham recommends putting material out the morning of collection in winter. (Source: markham.ca curbside collection.)

Leaf and Yard Waste in Markham

Leaf and yard material is collected every other week from April through October, then weekly from November to mid-December, on your regular collection day. The autumn stretch is when it matters most — rake early in the week so bags aren't sitting through wind and rain before pickup.
